about

Dani Joss debut solo album, Poeta Negra 2004

Liquid Photography constitutes Dani Joss' first personal musical endeavour, a musician already known from his participation in project S.ink. Although this 30 minute long release is considered an EP, it is nevertheless an autonomous and complete work with self-existing presence.

Through its five distinct units, a personal narration unfolds, reflecting the composer's internal cosmos. In terms of composition, Liquid Photography combines minimal and gradual growths along with periodic thematic changes, whereas in musical terms, it frequently shifts from frozen dark soundscapes to lyrical and emotionally charged crescendos.
Some of the colours that make up the sonic pallet of Liquid Photography are imposing strings, floating frequencies, dramatic but also childlike melodic themes, pianistic references and mellow guitar riffs.

press:
Chris Sharp, Wire: "As a solo artist, Joss focuses more on the possibilities of digital synthesis, crafting slow building, stately swatches of sound which have enough narrative impetus to sustain the listener’s interest. In fact, Liquid photography occasionally verges on the theatrical".

Argiris Zilos, Athinorama (record of the week): "This half-hour journey by the Thessaloniki-based composer goes deeper than the mixed electronic attitude, touching an aspect of introspective romanticism, not easily approachable to technocrats, as well as to the hyperactive".

Antonis N. Fragos, Difono: "This half-hour work by Dani Joss encompasses some of the most interesting sonority we have heard in the last few years. In five musical chapters, [...] the grey dominates, however without condemning the listener to severe melancholy. In contrast, Dani Joss guides him through terse sounds in atmospheres of floating and waiting, and from there to lyrical outbreaks".
